Although I'm guilty of ordering non-organic, mass produced, unsustainable stuff from Costco in my anxiety, I'm calmer and now trying to refocus. That said, my mind has shifted on how we can help smaller businesses locally and eat cleaner and better whilst in quarantine.
I recently received a message from my friend and neighbor, Robert LaValva, who founded the New Amsterdam Market (remember? down at the seaport on weekends many years back?). He's never lost his passion and now has started gathering purveyors online to allow the rest of us to find sustainable, good food in our region, while locked up inside.
I'm reposting his message and his recommendations - would love to hear feedback from anyone who orders!
New Amsterdam Market returns in virtual format, as a service to the growing community of purveyors, distributors, producers and other small businesses who are creating regional, sustainable, regenerative, healthful, and equitable food systems.
Below please find our first Directory of Purveyors. This initial listing is focused primarily on New York City and is by no means comprehensive. We welcome all suggestions for expanding our Directory to include like-minded businesses in the Northeast States including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, & Delaware; Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Please email your suggestions to: directory@newamsterdammarket.org
This same community will reinvent the food system of the next economy; now is a critical moment provide our support, as means allow. Future editions of this newsletter will focus on the restaurant community, which has been highly impacted by the present catastrophe.
Please circulate this email widely!
Sincerely,
Robert LaValva, Founder
New Amsterdam Market
